@bschou The rich have always and will always win. So debating “isms” is futile. Under a socialist system the rich will gain power and win. Under Libertarianism the rich will gain power and win. It happens in nature and it happens in us, who are part of nature. There has never been a time in human history were this is not the case. I see the struggle not against “isms” but the wealth being controlled by the few. A losing battle it seems unfortunately.

@bschou I think you will find that the original constitution did not outlaw slavery, there were amendments that did this. The original framers were slave holders so it is inconceivable that they would act in one way and write in another.

@movieklump Socialism is flawed because it necessitates violence. government can’ t “give” you anything. It must be extracted by violence from other individuals which is in fact an infringement on the right to their property. Personally I’m not really opposed to socialism if it’s local and transparent. I;m very opposed to central state socialism however. The federal government DOES need to be limited by the constitution.

@movieklump You mention slavery. The institution of slavery itself is in itself a violation of the constitution. The founders compromised and decided someone was only 50% of a person. This is not the fault of the consitution but rather a failing of following the principles of the constitution which grants equal treatment under the law and under government based off of the individual and not based off of whatever collective you were a part of.

The original consitutution was designed to limit government and protect the individual. Government at it’s philosophical essence is the monopoly on violence. A document that strictly limits that monopoly on violence is important. Look at history, the worst atrocities are commited by governments which become unlimited and no longer recognize the rights of the individual vs. the rights of the “collective”. @bschou That is exactly my point. We evolve. The original constitution that people like Paul rigidly adhere to is a document written by people who committed human rights violations (slavery). Paul views these men with some sort of reverence. Any form of government that does not have a socialistic element is neo Darwinism and that has never worked ever. Saying that, I think Ron Paul is the best bet for the US right now but he should talk to a true intellectual like Ralph Nader.

I was looking at opensecrets website, and was astounded to see Ron Paul is actually third overall in GOP fundraising. What makes it more astounding is I am sure virtually all of this money came from ordinary Americans. Unlike say…Mitt ‘Wall Street’ Romney.
And Paul totally dwarfs Gingrich’s fundraising, over 4 to 1. Let’s keep it that way.
